America and Christianity

Wow,
Out of all the emails you published about the Tea Partiers, you chose NOT to publish my quotation from Sinclair Lewis. The U.S. is under siege from crazy religious fundamentalists who would change the country so as to make Argentina look like paradise. It's starts by equating the U.S. with god, then patriotism with god, then the U.S. with Christians, then non-Christians as un-American, then non-Christians as tools of the devil. The separation of church and state has been an extremely important principle in America that is now at risk from the Christian Right.
I would caution you to be aware as you move here to look carefully at the agendas of various individuals within groups, if not the groups. I don't trust Tea Partiers any more than I trust Republicans or Democrats and I've been here 62 years. I certainly don't trust anyone who brings religion to political causes. The Catholics have been trying to take away abortion rights here for years.
Steve

Hi Steve, I dont remember your exact comment but I did reject several emails that were against tea parties, some more rude than others. I apologize if yours was well articulated and not insulting.
As I said before, I understand that people don’t appreciate receiving that kind of comments through their feeds, for them its just a waste of time, and I can see how it would bother them to receive such comments in their mails when they are registering to my blog, which is clearly conservative. Think of it this way: You join a vegetarian website, do you want to receive emails through it on how to butcher a cow and make a wonderful “asado”? I love asado myself, yet I would understand why that person would not appreciate those emails.
About one nation under God, I think its pretty self explanatory and in spite of religious freedom I think it would be better if people just accepted USA as mainly a Christian nation.

If Christianity offends people so, there are other countries that have other religions as their main religion, practiced by the majority of people there. Just as an example, if an Islamic individual is offended by Christianity in USA, maybe it would be in their best interest to move to an Islamic country where that religion is more main stream. That’s what I would do.  If communists like Michael Moore are offended by capitalism and the American way of doing things, there’s always Cuba to go to. Why not sell his big fat American company and move with his millions to Cuba or Venezuela? I’m sure Chavez would receive him with open arms. He could then settle his firm there and when Chavez takes it over he would actually be living the communist dream for real.

Why am I saying this and why do I think its important? Because if not you end up with stupidity like banning Christmas in schools and public buildings, people thinking that Easter is about chocolate eggs and pink bunnies and not having a clue of what it really means.
And why do I think this is this important? Because the family is the core of a society, and with all its limitations I think that the traditional Christian family is the one that holds dear the values I cherish the most.
I’m not asking everyone else to agree with me or do as I do, but I am demanding that they don’t attempt to DESTROY it either, and unfortunately that’s what happening in today’s world.
The traditional Christian family is mocked as if it were a joke, even something that only existed in sitcoms during the 60’s , something that was never real to being with. Catholics priests? They are pedophiles, all of them. That’s what the media feeds us isn’t it? Funny thing is, I went to a Catholic university for several years, we did more charity there and helped a lot of extremely poor people in some of the farthest away corners of the country. (Salta for that matter, a place of extreme poverty in spite of what BS real estate developers like Doug Casey may say)

You’re wrong about the current religious situation in Argentina. Since the Ks took power, they’ve been methodically attacking the catholic Church, like good socialists. The methods used are similar to the ones applied in USA: Media campaigns, the spreading of every single bad thing they can dig out about it, never mention any of the good things they do, mocking their traditions or down right banning them so as not to “offend” others.

Soon enough you receive “happy holyday” letters or even more repugnant “Happy Xmas!” ones, lets be careful not to offend anyone with the word “Christ”, God forbid. (the irony)
And then people wonder why you have kids that consider Marilyn Manson a god (or even more evil, Miley Cyrus :-) ) Why a normal looking guy from UK becomes an Islamic fanatic and tries to bomb his own home town, why a kid goes to school with a gun to shoot people. In the good old days when those evil Christian families and their values where the norm, kids practiced target shooting in their schools and you didn’t have a massacre every week. In my school, they shot with 22LR and 7,65 Mauser, no one ever got shot.
You think America is at “risk” of becoming extreme Christian? 1) Why would that be a bad thing? 2) Its becoming more atheist, socialist big brother new world order, not conservative Christian.
“The Catholics have been trying to take away abortion rights here for years.”

Well, at least they are trying, hope they succeed one day. And I hope that abortion stops being a “right”, to become only a “necessity” in the most extreme case. By the way, why don’t you call it what it is, maybe you’ll see how wrong it is if you use the right words: The right to kill an unborn child.

Hey, I want to start a campaign, the right to kill people that listen to boy band crappy pop music. That at least sounds less ridiculous than the “right” to kill babies in their mother’s womb.
Other than killing a baby to save the mother, what gives you the right to kill a child? Today, most women getting abortions aren’t rape victims or women that need it for life or death medical complications, but slutty girls with equally slutty and liberal parents that are to self centered and spoiled to avoid bringing a child to this world in the first place. “oh, but the right of the brat to be a careless whore!” What about the right of the baby to… gee… live?
But I forgot, unborn babies don’t vote. Hmm… interesting approach, millions of stupid parents and equally stupid kids that represent millions of votes versus babies that will be killed anyway and translate into a grand total of ZERO votes, lets make the idiots happy, doing the right thing be damned.
I remember one time I was walking down a boulevard here in Buenos Aires, two girls holding hands were walking ahead of me, to one side. Dressed in black clothes, face full of piercing and goth makeup and hair cut covering half their faces. One was telling to other “I hate her, she has one of those “perfect” families.” I couldn’t help thinking, “Dear, you really could have used one of those.”
And people sometimes wonder why we live in such a sick society.

Today is Father’s Day here in Argentina. I was woken up by my kids and wife, opened my presents.
One of the cards was written by my wife:
“My love: Happy Father’s Day! You are the best father a child can have. I wanted to thank you for everything you do for our family, for protecting us and caring for us with love. I love you Fer, happy father’s day- Laura”
My one year old son wrote a card with a bunch of circles inside, my wife swears that “daddy” according to him. My seven year old boy wrote me another one, inside he drew one of those horrible perfect families. You know, the kind that you see in nightmares and would mean the end of the world if there was more of them.

Take care people, happy Father’s Day to all the Dads out there.

Happy Fathers Day and thanks for the great post. As an American Catholic that believes with all my heart that the Church preaches the truth I'm proud to live in a country where you or anyone else can practice their faith and I can practice mine and as long as neither violate the rights of anyone else no one, not even the President, can say a damned thing about it.

Without God we have nothing. Our rights and freedoms come from God and the Founders understood this. They encouraged...no, the expected us to be a religious people because without a belief in God and the natural law, our system of government cannot stand.

So, if you want to be an atheist, fine. It's up to you. Just quit trying to jamb your belief system down my throat. Of course, you'll say that believers are trying to do the same to you. Too bad. Because according to the Founders of our country religious belief and principles are vital to a free people. Religion is part and parcel of the American experience and system of government. Learn to live with it and accept it. You don't have to believe, just enjoy the freedoms afforded you by those of us that do.

I think they do push the Christianity thing to much in political terms. I have lived in communities where they would love to establish their 700 Club theocratic vision. That is also anti-liberty/capitalist. Life under them would be akin to living in the old Pilgrim towns where they went witch hunting.
And as for founding Fathers most of them are products of their age, the Enlightenment. Franklin only went to Church because it looked good to hang around the Episcopals.
It is true though our rights are inherit in the universe. They were not atheist, but they were not Fundamentalist Protestant Evangelicals as some claim today. They agreed with the natural and common law, which America practices very little of today.

Now if you would like a replay of the 30 years war this time in the United States with modern weapons and with the addition of Anarchist and other weirdos thrown in, then by all means permit the SBU to seize control of this nation. It would be just as bad if the other goons seized control. Frankly, I wish people would just stop and respect rights instead of pushing their Communazi Islamo-Fascist Protestant Theocracy unto the planet. There are 10 amendments that any literate human being can figure out, and each state has such a variation in their constitutions. How about we give Jefferson his hope and obey them for a change?

Ferfal, very well said. I'm glad you're moving to the USA, you will be a great asset to the country.
In fact, immigrants like yourself were not only key to making this country but are probably the best hope for preserving what can be preserved of its greatness.

Keep up the good work.

Even if (as it currently appears) much of the country must be lost to entitlement-thinking (socialism), bureaucracy (large and harmful or useless government), corruption, and to people such as the one that wrote the previous post; perhaps a stronghold for what the rest of us value can still be kept here in Texas! For damn sure, we won't go out quietly or easily.

Why don't we look up how many times the word God appears in the United States Constitution? Nope, not even one time, the word religion is mentioned twice in the First Amendment, but only in regards to protecting peoples right to believe whatever they want.

The founders were not fundamentalist religious nutballs. They were men who had witnessed how religious zealotry LIMITS freedom.

The preamble to the Constitution states, We the people, not god establish our rights.

Fer lets stick to practical preparedness stuff. Religious talk brings our the nutjobs on every side.

There are some wacky Christians who do want a Christian Theocracy, but they are very few. If a politician mentions that God and faith are the major tenets in his life, then he is not some weirdo, but somebody who follows closely what almost every leader in this country has followed. Look up Abraham Lincoln quotes, or George Washington quotes just as two examples.

What we should focus on is not whether somebody says they are a Christian or Muslim or Atheist, but rather look to see how they run their lives and the status of their family.

I know an awful lot of VERY fundamentalist protestants and I can't name a single one that has ever advocated (within my hearing) a theocracy type government. I don't think our country is in danger of crazy Christians controlling everything. They just want the real meaning of the separation of church and state: the government will not set a national religion and require everybody to participate. It doesn't mean people can't pray in public, or anybody that has ever received a dime of money from the feds can't mention their faith. Our constitution DOES NOT endorse Atheism.

"I think it would be better if people just accepted USA as mainly a Christian nation."

Dear Ferfal,

The fact that Christians are the largest religious group in the USA doesn't make the State Christian. These are two different things.

The founding fathers were students of the European enlightment. I'm not saying none of them were religious, but I don't think they indended the Christian religion to have the role in their country that the tea partiers want to give it.

Here are some of their quotations:

"The purpose of separation of church and state is to keep forever from these shores the ceaseless strife that has soaked the soil of Europe in blood for centuries." -- James Madison

"The Bible is not my book, nor Christianity my profession." -- Abraham Lincoln

"In every country and every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty." -- Thomas Jefferson

"Lighthouses are more helpful than churches." -- Benjamin Franlin

"As I understand the Christian religion, it was, and is, a revelation. But how has it happened that millions of fables, tales, legends, have been blended with both Jewish and Christian revelation that have made them the most bloody religion that ever existed?" -- John Adams

"Take away from Genesis the belief that Moses was the author, on which only the strange belief that it is the word of God has stood, and there remains nothing of Genesis but an anonymous book of stories, fables, and traditionary or invented absurdities, or of downright lies." -- Thomas Paine

Historian Barry Schwartz writes: "George Washington's practice of Christianity was limited and superficial because he was not himself a Christian... He repeatedly declined the church's sacraments. Never did he take communion, and when his wife, Martha, did, he waited for her outside the sanctuary... Even on his deathbed, Washington asked for no ritual, uttered no prayer to Christ, and expressed no wish to be attended by His representative." --About George Washington [New York Press, 1987, pp. 174-175]

You obviously prefer Christianity. A number of your readers don't. But we do share a number of values and interests with you and I hope that we can soon focus again on what unites us, instead of what divides us.

I'm not going to touch the pro-choice vs. pro-life debate with a ten foot pole, but I will say this: abortion politics are a massive farce in the US. NEITHER party is interested in banning or protecting abortion rights. It's much more advantageous for them to trot it out as a big bogeyman during major elections.

Democrats: "If you don't vote for Obama, then McCain will become President and bring in Supreme Court justices who will ban abortion! Vote Obama to protect abortion rights!"

Republicans: "If you vote for Reagan/Bush/Bush2/McCain/Republican politician du jour, then we'll ban abortion!"

Well, guess what? Since Roe vs. Wade, the anti-abortion Republicans have had three Presidents, including their idol Reagan, and a decade-long majority in Congress and DID NOTHING TO STOP ABORTION. If abortions were going to be banned, it would have happened by now.

Sorry, but I'm very sick and tired of being told by all sides of the political spectrum to base my vote on my views of abortion when it's bloody obvious that politicians aren't interested in changing it one way or another. Americans would be much better off ignoring the abortion debate entirely, and instead grilling politicians on matters that are important here and now, like how they plan to fix the national debt and the economy.

Christianity is not just a religion, it is a way of life. Take it away and you get people turning to drugs and sex to give their life meaning. The effects of "alternative life-styles" have been disastrous in the USA and everywhere else where they have been tolerated.

A lot of older comments are taken out of context by people with an agenda. I personally don't care if the founders were Christian, though there are many websites devoted to out of context quotes designed to make it seem as if the various founders placed no value on religion. They were not Christian in the sense that we think of today, but they had a fervent belief in God and the practical teachings spread across Europe through Christianity. They did believe that a God had created the universe and ordained the natural laws by which it continues. What they were seeking to avoid is the violence that always ensues when a state religion is declared and everybody else is not allowed to worship as they see fit. Oddly enough, through the elimination of any form of religion in a public forum, we are declaring a de facto state religion of Atheism that limits religious practices.

A couple from Washington, though these may also be out of context.

"Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle." AND "The propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right which Heaven itself has ordained".

Abraham Lincoln quoted the bible so often that he would be laughed out of politics today.

In my involvement with Tea Parties I can only remember one time when I heard anybody advocate a Theocracy. What most Tea Party people don't like are things such as a prayer at a football game or commencement ceremony being banned even though it makes no mention of Jesus or any religious doctrine. It is the elimination of religion from public sphere that draws objection, and not the absence of a Theocracy.

Since I somewhat set off this fuse... if Ferfal is agreeable and posts this response, you'll see it. I am not going to argue religion here;the difference between facts and beliefs is not arguable. There is one gravitational force that will cause a rock to fall whether you or I drop it, for example, but the hundreds of religions show us the variety of beliefs mankind can espouse. The U.S. Constitution is equally clear and, as others have posted, I would suggest a rereading for those who think the founders conceptualized a "Christian nation."

Ferfal mentioned to me that I shouldn't be surprised to find conservative views here as this is a conservative blog. Actually, I never thought of politics while reading dozens of his posts. I just saw them as helpful and factual descriptions of the problems faced by everyday Argentines following the looting of their country by those in power in 2001. I look forward to further posts about anything Ferfal cares to mention.

In terms of the Tea Party movement...I don't think it will be a true political force because Ron Paul and Sarah Palin, for example, have almost nothing in common and the presence of both their followers will tear apart any movement eventually. That is just my thought, however, and not a fact.

I have to agree with the poster who said to focus on prepping here, as that unites us, rather than beliefs, which may separate us.

I consider myself a Tea Partier, but I respectfully disagree with your post. I love living in America precisely because I can be a gay atheist whore in full drag while attending a public protest and not have to worry about the being arrested or harassed for it. It's not that I'm any of those things--far from it--but I'm glad that the option is open for me to live that life if I felt inclined. I have a very, very big problem with the government telling me who I can and can't marry, who I can and can't sleep with and when I'm allowed to sleep with them, what I am allowed to do to my own body / what food and drugs I'm allowed to consume, using my tax dollars to promote a religion in public schools and other public arenas, etc.

Beyond enforcing basic criminal laws against violence and theft, the government needs to stay the hell out of legislating morality. It not only goes against the Constitution and the people who created it, but it just doesn't work. Banning drugs and alcohol doesn't stop people from using them. Banning abortion doesn't stop people from having them (do you know how many thousands of backroom abortions were performed during the "traditional" '50s and '60s before it was legalized?). Banning weapons doesn't reduce violence. Forcing kids to learn about Christianity or any other religion doesn't guarantee they will turn out ethical or moral. etc. etc. etc.

Marilyn Manson has some sensible things to say if you really listen.

I'm pro-life when it comes to my own offspring and pro-choice when it comes to everyone else. More for my progeny to inherit.

Today I had my first Father's day, the mother of my son made a little card with his foot on it. We've been split up for almost a year now and I've had to endure the realization that the Argentine legal system is biased against fathers simultaneous with some crazy Argentina hysterics, but we still managed to function, love our kid, and respect each other. I don't know if you need Christianity to be able to work things out like that, but maybe if my parents weren't Catholics I wouldn't have this attitude about conflict resolution. I put myself into the relationship to my utmost capacity back when we found out, and even as the relationship wasn't working out I held on, and I let her know that I would support the boy. I wasn't going to let my first born son become a casualty of youth.

That's basic survivalism right there.

1) Fundamentalists make claims about what the Founders intended --but those claims are NOT supported by the historical FACTS.

2) From Article 6 of the US Constitution -- put into the Constitution from the very beginning:

"no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States."

3) Or look at Article 11 of the 1797 Treaty of Tripoli, approved by the US Senate with unanimous consent after being published in Philadelphia and New York Papers:

"Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion,—as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen,—and as the said States never entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."

4) The Founders kept the State separate from any organized religions because such separation is necessary in order that we may be faithful to both. We keep the State secular in order that the power of the State can not be used to compel any citizen to commit heresy.

5) For example, There are Those who would compel Americans to swear the Pledge of Allegiance as follows:

" I pledge allegiance to the flag
and to the United States of America
ONE NATION , UNDER GOD, "

But how would a Christian feel if he was compelled to swear:
"ONE NATION, UNDER ALLAH..."??

or "ONE NATION, UNDER VISHNU"???

6) Plus the Founders knew of the truly hideous crimes that had occurred in Europe by advocates of one sect of Christianity or another. The burning at the stake sanctioned by the Catholic Church. The persecution of English Catholics by the Anglicans.

7) HOW can such vicious wars and crimes against humanity be considered CHRISTIAN?

They were not -- and that is why the Founders were determined that that Old World Disease not be transferred to the New.

Do whatever you want man, but your rights end where mine start.
A perfect example of this happened to me while in Barcelona this summer. We had just watched a movie with my old man and my son, the three generations walking in the boulevard in front of the beach.
Out of nowhere comes this ugly naked guy running out the Mediterranean. At first I thought it was some kind of mutant walrus but no such luck, just an ugly naked exhibitionist, his parts and fat flapping all around, quite proud of a physique worthy of a Jorge Romero zombie movie. We had to turn around and just leave so that my son (and frankly ourselves too) were spared of the awful exhibition. My father later told me that its perfectly legal to do so, you can be sitting in La Gran Via sipping coffee on the sidewalk and fat ugly guy can walk just by you, brush against you even given how crowded those places are, it perfectly legal in Barcelona. That’s his “right”. My right to beat the crap out of him (with a stick, I wouldn’t touch that thing with my hands) No, I don’t have that right of course, I have to tolerate that BS, and later explain to my son why some pervert runs around naked in front of us.
That’s what happens when you start making everything ok, everything so liberal.
Then it translates into other 40 year old something loser to not work, then others like that idea as well and you end up with 50% of the population working and paying taxes to sustain the other 50% that spend all day skateboarding and actually working at screwing the interviews they go to so as to keep collecting unemployment, and of course the economy goes to hell sooner rather than later. So you see Gay atheist whore Anonymous, there’s the connection between liberals, ugly naked guy and the economy going to hell in a country with a society that doesn’t deserve better.

I think we can all agree that it is evil to coerce people into any religion or belief set. FerFAL has a point when naked freak-o's are allowed to prance around in front of kids...that stuff should not be allowed. I don't care if it is in front of adults, but it really messes with the mind of a child.

Vishnu, Allah, God...that is the beauty of the non-denominational prayer. Almost every single person on this planet believes in a higher power that created and sustains the universe. Even if we are wrong, it doesn't hurt you to hear us pray, so stop suing us over it. The "Freedom from religion" crowd is, inadvertently I think, attempting to establish a de facto state religion of Atheism.

A perfect example of this when I am teaching evolutionary theory to high school students, I am unable to address religion with my Bible-belt students. That's a major problem. I will be sued, and probably fired, if I answer the same question I get every time. "Mr. Teacher, what do you believe?"

The compromise that I wish for is for Christians to not attempt to establish any kind of theocracy or requirement that all people be Christian and for Atheists to stop attempting to make anybody with a state job be unable to express their religious beliefs.

I'm an agnostic and don't do drugs. The sex is nice but doesn't harm anyone. I work for a living.

What gives meaning to my life is learning how to be self-reliant, trying to make the world a better place and helping other people.

Not everybody needs to be afraid to go to hell to be kind to others.

@FerFAL "you end up with 50% of the population working and paying taxes to sustain the other 50% that spend all day skateboarding and actually working at screwing the interviews they go to so as to keep collecting unemployment"

I agree that this is a big problem in Spain. But Spain is one of the more catholic countries in Europe and yet the other EU countries aren't worse.
Systems can be abused and should be adjusted to eliminate blatant abuse. That this situation is tolerated suggests neglect from those in power. Politicians don't like to take unpopular decisions, but when the money runs out they will have to. Economic reality is catching up with them in 3... 2... 1...

Even if you take God out of the picture, abortion is still ludicrous.

If you own an apartment building and a a tenant is living in one. He has a right to live there peacefully, safely and with basic essentials that you must provide like heat, electricity, water plumbing.

You can't say; "Oh, i don't like this person here. He is a great inconvenience to me. Let me drag him out of my apartment and kill him."

He has a right to be there in that apartment. You can't kill him because you own the apartment. The law will punish you the apartment owner of 1st degree murder.

They can then replace the Judeo-Christian ethics that made this country great with their own situational ethics and moral relativism.

Then we sit around and wonder why we have school shootings, skyrocketing teen pregnancy, drug and alcohol abuse, etc, etc, etc. We wonder why so many Americans would rather be on the dole than work to provide for their families (and give their kids a better future). We have replaced their self-esteem with hatred and envy.

Half of the US doesn't know right from wrong anymore!

ALINSKY RULES: PICK A TARGET TOPIC AND POLARIZE IT. Guess what? /it's working. In the 1960s and 1970s, 80%+ of the polls reflected conservative values. I now find the poll aggregators show that progressive values are reflected in 40% of the polled results. The Alinsky Rules success has polarized this nation like I never believed possible.

It's a bit of a shock to realize that 40% of the USA disagrees with me! I'm not bothered by it because I live in Argentina, where 90% of the population disagrees with me >8^P

When the Baby Boomers die off in 20 years or so (I find very few 80+ year old political activists) the estimate is that progressive values will be at LEAST 80% of the polled population, if no significant events occur to preclude it... like, a world war.

To those of you who say that discussing the conflict between progressive and conservative opinions, lifestyles and values has no impact on prepping and survival topics, I would respectfully point out that preppers will become the new "Fat Cats" who have resources that the non-prepper progressive masses now target as their right to take from you. When Big Gov lets 'em down and they start dying you can bet that your non-skeletal appearance or smoke coming from your chimney with cooking smells, the noise of a generator , etc will put a 10-ring on your butt. Progressives are used to getting what they want will little effort and can easily convince themselves that anyone so stupid as to deny themselves fun by prepping efforts is too stupid to live, any way!

There are clearly many preppers who have progressive beliefs in this pre-SHTF world. Those progressive preppers who do not make the switch to a conservative mindset (which has nothing to do with religion or abortion-as-birth-control issues) after SHTF will severely hurt their chances for survival.

THE FOLLOWING things come to mind on this topic:
. There are NO pure hard core progressives who do much in the way of preps. They are the ones calling the preppers nuts... 'cause Big Gummit is gonna come save them.

. Any time you hear someone bringing up racism, religious freedom, political correctness or abortion, the discussion is pretty much over. All those topics are deal breakers and conversation stoppers because these topics have been Alinskyized: used as tools to stop real, meaningful discourse and to promote the progressive agendy via divisiveness.

. Many of us volunteered to serve to protect the freedom of speech of our worst enemies. We also have the right to quit buying Dixie Chicks products, Michael Moore/Al Gore /Richard Gere and other enemies of the American CONSERVATIVE lifestyle.

. We must continue to defend the rights of those who disagree with us as well as the right of FerFAL to defend his religious freedom views and Family Values of a true patriot.

. I feel really sad and verrrry sorry for those people who so arrogantly deride the faith of believers. They do not know the joy of a life well lived with a strong shoulder to lean on when times get tough. They should feel the freedom from fear of death... that makes liberty truly sweet.

Thanks, guys for letting me rant. Suerte -CapnRick

Tea = Taxed Enough Already. It means we are sick of the way things are going and don't want to mortgage the future.

It is anti-incumbent, but needn't be anti-Dem. It's more 'anti status quo'.

I think the "Mainstream Media" has done a GREAT job of misrepresenting the movement, and needlessly scaring people by demonizing the tea party. We're not about abortion (although I am 100% pro-choice), we're not all followers of Bush (he helped get us into this mess!), etc. It's about taking stock and making sure we don't bankrupt the whole country.

And FWIW, the sep. of Church and State means the State leaving the Church alone.

I think the world has an over-population problem. Only China has the "balls" to confront it, though they should have done a 2-child policy instead of a 1-child, because that went lop-sided.

Traditional families are important. As soon as there's civil war values will reset to the 'norm. Happens every four generations right?

US/EU/JP will happen soon then, as India/China/SA/Africa liberalize. (or don't)

We're all heading back to feudalism and Corporation 1.0 (organized religion) anyway. Spirituality and self-reflection is important for sure.

I think age is the factor, those figures always say that, check polls from the 20's BEFORE the great depression, FDR just sealed the deal the way Obama is now. I know when i was young you could have labeled me progressive, the older i get the more conservative i get. I'm a full blown libertarian now and i'm not that old...maybe a link? ;) After all a progressive is just a libertarian looking for a dad.

The problem as i see it is parents...I never had someone to take me hunting, fishing, teach me about life, how to handle emotions, discipline, or just general point of view.

My parents died when i was young and i had to sorta figure things out as i went along, I didn't even know how to clean until i enlisted. But i never went hungry, or had to go without a nintendo. Then when you come of age you really don't know what to do. work? what's that? I never SAW someone do that before. You figure it out or you steal or you enlist.

A society can be free if the home belongs to the parents. If not, people need discipline from somwhere...

If it wasn't for Jesus Christ i would be dead or in prison.
